Melody Xu Oakville Accident Obituary Death, Child Hockey Player has Died

The Oakville community is heartbroken over the loss of 8-year-old Melody Xu, a beloved young hockey player whose joyful spirit, kindness, and love for the game touched everyone who knew her. Melody passed away following a tragic accident on Thursday, November 6, when she and her mother were struck by a vehicle on North Service Road West.

According to Halton Regional Police, a Lexus SUV veered off the roadway and onto the sidewalk just before 4 p.m., striking the pair. Both were rushed to hospital and later to trauma centers. Despite the best efforts of medical teams, Melody succumbed to her injuries, while her mother remains hospitalized. The 47-year-old driver has been charged with dangerous operation causing death, and the investigation is ongoing.

“Forever a Hornet”

The Oakville Hornets Girls Hockey Association confirmed Melody’s passing in a heartfelt statement, describing her as “a bright light, a dedicated teammate, and a true Hornet.” The association encouraged families to join in a touching tribute — “Put Your Stick Out for Melody” — by placing hockey sticks outside homes as a sign of solidarity and remembrance.

Teammates remember Melody for her cheerful smile, encouraging words, and contagious enthusiasm both on and off the ice.
